The waterfront promenade in Algés will be hosting the 9th NOS Alive event on the 9th, 10th and 11th of July 2015. In 2014, NOS Alive once again made history and, for the fourth time running, the three day concert pass was sold out, as well as the tickets for the 10th of July, a month before the start of the event: unheard of among musical festivals in Portugal.
In 2015, there will be a new area wholly dedicated to urban art, next to the six concert stages. This seventh area will be hosting a range of exhibitions by some of the best known artists in this form of artistic expression: Add Fuel, Ana Aragão, Arraiano, Burry Buermans, Godmess, Mário Belém and Tamara Alves. NOS Alive will thus have seven original takes on the tree logotype based on the work of these seven artists. The tree signifies being alive (and live performances) and demands transformation, such as a child becoming a young person and a young person who becomes an adult. The results can already be seen in a collector’s edition from the FNAC Fan Pack, which shows the seven recreations, each signed by the artist.
The concept for the seven versions of the same subject matter was developed by Gerador, a cultural association, which takes action and communicates to promote Portuguese culture, setting up locations to exhibit and publicise artists and their work, using a magazine and a dynamic and participative online website.
Today, NOS Alive is the event that each year brings the most foreign visitors to Portugal. In 2014, there were 15 thousand overseas visitors at the festival over the course of the three days of the event, coming from 48 different countries. These were 15 thousand tourists who took advantage of the festival to get to know or to revisit some Portuguese towns and cities on their journey to or from the festival, now considered to be one of the most important in Europe.
Prices and distinctions
2014 was a year of success for NOS Alive, which once again won more prizes and nominations, both national and international, for the most important awards in the festival industry and in tourism and communications. The various prizes won for the 8th event attest to the quality to which the public have become accustomed through NOS Alive since it started in 2007.
In 2014, NOS Alive once again won the “Consumer Choice” prize, by ensuring public satisfaction in relation to the conditions and safety in the festival area, the star line up, the environment and accesses. On top of this, it won the prize “Lead Portugal, Welcome to Portugal”, awarded as part of the III Algarve Business Forum, on account of its innovative and differentiated character, with an important impact on tourism.
Also the “Marketeer” prize in the category “Events and Entertainment” was won for the second time, awarded by this prestigious magazine in the sector. NOS Alive’14 was also successful in the Media and Creative Publicity prizes winning two Silver medals in the Festival and Major Public Event categories, and in the M&P Communication prizes, winning a Bronze medal.
The festival has also been nominated in seven categories, for those which are the most important prizes in relation to festivals in Portugal, in the Portugal Festival Awards. As for international distinctions, for which voting is still in progress, NOS Alive has been nominated for the two most prestigious awards in the industry: the European Festival Awards and in the UK Festival Awards, in the categories “Best Major Festival” and “Best Overseas Festival”, respectively.
